Two killed in Sundarbans ‘gunfight’ with RAB
Two men were killed in a gunfight with RAB in the Sundarbans on Monday morning. The two – Akash, 40, and Farid, 45 – were described as bandits by RAB. RAB said Akash was the chief of a gang named Akash Bahini. The shootout took place in Tambol Bunia Khal area of Chandpai range around 07:00am. Seventeen local and foreign arms were recovered from the scene. RAB-8 deputy commander Major Adnan Kabir told a RAB team patrolling the area fired back when shots were fired at them by forest robbers. He said the exchange of gunfire lasted for nearly half an hour and the two bodies were found after the gunfight ended. “The bodies will be sent to Mongla Police Station,” added the RAB official.
