Niko graft case indictment hearing Feb 17
A court in Dhaka on Monday set February 17 for indictment hearing of the Niko graft case against BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and 10 others.
Judge Md Aminul Islam of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court set the date after accepting Khaleda’s non-appearance petition for today on health grounds.
The petition was filed by her counsels Advocate Sanaullah Miah and Syed Joynul Abedin Mejbah.
The Anti-Corruption Commission lodged the case in December 2007, accusing Khaleda and others of abusing power to award a gas exploration and extraction deal to Canadian company Niko when she was the prime minister from 2001 to 2006.
The High Court on June 18 this year rejected a petition filed by Khaleda challenging the legality of the case proceedings. It also ordered her to surrender before the trial court within two months.
Khaleda on November 30 surrendered to court and was granted bail in the case.
