
Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia appeared in court on seven days in the current year in three cases—Zia Orphanage Trust case, Zia Charitable Trust case and Niko graft case--filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
She appeared in the Third Special Judge’s Court set up on the Alia Madrasa ground at Baksibazar in the city on six days out of 28 days fixed by the court in the Zia Orphanage Trust case and Zia Charitable Trust Case and on one day in the Special Judge’s Court-9 in the city in the Niko graft case.
A court also issued an arrest warrant against her on February 25 last for failing to appear in the court. Later on her surrender before the court on April 5 last and on her prayer for bail the court granted her the bail. Now she is on bail in all three cases.
She appeared in court in the Zia Orphanage Trust case and Zia Charitable Trust case on April 5, May 25, June 18, July 23, August 3 and September 10 and in the Niko graft case on November 30.
The trial in the Zia Orphanage Trust case and Zia Charitable Trust case is being held against nine persons including Khaleda Zia in the third Special Judge’s Court in Dhaka. Of them, hearing from the witnesses in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case is nearing the end. Of the 36 witnesses, 31 have submitted their deposition. 30 have been cross-examined. At present the investigation officer of the case is giving his deposition. The next hearing will be held on December 31.
